Phil Gramm, gone

Good riddance.

While I believe that he was only hurting the McCain campaign, any rich guy callous enough to say "We have sort of become a nation of whiners... You just hear this constant whining, complaining about a loss of competitiveness, America in decline," has not been paying attention to the problems of this country.

On top of all this, the guy, according to wikipedia produced two soft core porn flicks.

Gramm also produced two soft-core motion pictures: Truck Stop Women in 1974 and White House Madness in 1975.

Fun.

Edit: Another article on Gramm that details his dealings in the past that have lead this country into a tailspin.

We are to an extent a nation of whiners. The blogosphere is full of examples of this... myself included. We SEE the problems, we EXPERIENCE the Bullsh*#, we TALK about what should be done, and THEN we.... don't.

I agree with your sentiment. But I think that there is a difference between the apathy of middle America, and people complaining online.

At the very least, people online line are informed.

Half are slightly MIS-informed... others are interested in spouting off their own kind of rhetoric.

The other half continue to educate themselves on issues and actually write to their representatives and senators and the such.

Protesting works, but only when it's organized properly. More and more we're seeing videos of protests popping up online. Either the movement is growing or, possibly more plausible, people are videotaping them in the off chance cops are going to screw up.

Unfortunately, there is not a lot of protesting in Tampa, Florida.
